Making Things • Sharing Skills • Building Friendships
The Ballina Community Mens Shed has been part of the local community since 2011, giving men a friendly place to meet, work with their hands and stay connected. Now based at a purpose-built facility in Fisheries Creek Road, the Shed is well equipped with tools and workshops and has over 100 members, with more than 30 men turning up most days to work on projects and share a cuppa.
Members build practical items for local groups – things like boomerang blanks for Bunjum Aboriginal Co-op, a chicken coop for a kindergarten, bird nesting boxes for wildlife projects, and quality wooden goods sold at markets – all while supporting each other’s health and wellbeing through regular mateship and activity. The Ballina Mens Shed is a not-for-profit health promotion charity and part of the Australian Mens Shed Association, focused on reducing isolation and improving men’s mental health in the Ballina area.
Woodworking
Whether you're an experienced woodworker or picking up a tool for the first time, our workshop is a place to learn, create and enjoy the satisfaction of making something with your own hands.
Metal Working
The shop includes metal lathes, a milling machine, and several types of welding machines. Members use this gear for jobs like repairs, custom parts, small fabrication projects and learning new techniques in a safe, supervised environment.
Garden
In the garden we grow seasonal veggies, herbs and a few flowers, look after the soil, and share basic gardening know‑how. You don’t need any experience – you can just come along, learn as you go, or help with watering, planting, and general maintenance while having a yarn with the other fellas.
